So why not Vinyl Shower Curtains?
Vinyl or PVC shower curtains emit toxic chemicals that have been linked to serious health problems.
The Center for Health, Environment and Justice points out that high concentrations of volatile organic compounds were found in the curtains, many of which were associated with damage to the liver and the central nervous system, as well as to reproductive organs and the lungs.
Thier findings that up to 108 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were found in detectable quantities in the air around the shower curtains. The quantity of total VOCs in some cases was at least 16 times higher than standards for the quality of indoor air set by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Why choose a Fabric Shower Curtain?
The most important benefit to fabric shower curtains, is the elegant and magnificent appearance they offer. Fabric hangs much more naturally than vinyl, and it has a certain element of class to it, even though it comes at a cost - virtually all fabric shower curtains cost more than vinyl alternatives. Most fabric shower curtains typically are not water-proof, so you may need to purchase a separate shower curtain liner to safeguard the fabric and keep it dry.
Benefits:
- Fabric shower curtains can usually be washed in a washing machine
- Fabric shower curtains appear warmer, softer and more natural
- Fabric shower curtains can be more closely matched to overall bathroom decor
- Many fabric shower curtains are lightweight and easily maintained, such as nylon and polyester
